Botox aftercare
There may be some temporary after-effects following the injections. Most commonly these are bruising, tenderness, swelling and occasionally a headache or mild flu-like symptoms. The latter two may last two to three days, the others usually resolve within a couple of hours.
Occasionally a mild drooping of the eyelid can occur but this is very rare. In the unlikely event that it does happen, please contact the clinic so one of the doctors can make an assessment.
Following the injections it is important to use the treated muscles as much as possible (i.e. frown, squint or raise the eyebrows depending on the area treated) for the next few hours. This helps to maximise the effect of treatment.
For 6 hours after the injections you should avoid heavy exercise, hot baths and alcohol as these can increase blood flow and may dilute the effect. You should also avoid rubbing the area or applying pressure, and do not use make-up for the same period of time.
Wrinkles usually begin to disappear after three or four days but may take up to ten days for the full effects to become apparent.
On average the results last three to four months after the first injection but repeat treatments often lead to longer-lasting effects.
We normally ask you to come back for a review 2 weeks after your treatment to assess the effects and if there is any unwanted movement in the treatment area, we will top-up for free to get the best possible result.
