As many of my patients will know, tear trough treatments are one of my most performed and satisfying treatments at Cosmedic Skin Clinic and I receive referrals from up and down the country. It is a not an area without risk and only skilled, experienced and advanced practitioners should be injecting in this area. Risks include lumps, bumps, Tyndall’s (a bluish hue visible within the skin), significant bruising and even blindness! For best results, longevity and safety I advocate the use of Redensity [II] produced by Teoxane. I do train on behalf of
several companies in products that I use myself and believe in the ethics of the company and provide independent training on behalf of Teoxane in the treatment of the tear trough area. I am passionate about training and ensuring that practitioners are appropriately trained and I have attached below the feedback from my latest training:
“We asked each delegate the following questions, of which the entire group responded ‘Strongly Agree’ for each question, which I’m sure you will agree is a brilliant result. If you would like the feedback in its raw form please do just ask.

Two great days training on Princess PDO Thread Lifts with Stada Aesthetics.
Day 1 at Dr Martin Kinsella’s practice with Salanna Zimri, Ayad Harb and Becky.
Day 2 at 10 Harley Street with Vincent Wong, Richard Brighton-Knight, Rikin Parekh, Ian Morgan and Rosey Droitte-Stapples.
Expert practitioners delivering amazing results! Really look forward to working more closely with you all.
A special thanks to Martin for his hospitality at his clinic and providing the models, especially for providing follow up to the model who I managed to cause a haematoma on.
A very informative and enjoyable meeting in Barcelona at INNO HQ. Some great products and supported by a very scientific and knowledgeable team. Can’t wait to start some PPC Fat Melting treatments!!
A fantastic day training on tear troughs using Redensity [II], great results, very skilled injectors and really good to catch up with friends and colleagues including Betty Evans, Claire Quinn, Gillian Hunt, Carolyn Deegan and Samantha Maye.
Staying Safe In The Sun A very informative article that Dr Martyn King contributed to in the July 2016 Edition of Aesthetic Journal, highlighting the importance of using a broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sun protection, all year round and with regular application. Can anyone spot our receptionist on there?
This was a great conference and a huge success for the British Association of Sclerotherapists. Some very good lectures and demonstrations, excellent for networking and educational as well as fun!
A nice little article that I contributed to in Aesthetics, April 2016. Many of our patients come to clinic asking about a specific treatment, although often there are different options and starting with lifting and volumising, improving skin quality and then brightening and smoothing the skin to give the 10 years younger look!
Treating Bingo Wings May 2016: Bingo wings are very common and in one survey 3 out of 4 women reported that this is the area they liked least about their body! Read my article from Aesthetics Journal on different treatments available. These are very popular treatments at Cosmedic Skin Clinic, why not book a free consultation to see what we can do for you?
Aesthetic Medicine Live 2016: Even better than last year – great programme, great speakers, great venue, great exhibitors and a fantastic night out on the Saturday. It was really good to catch up with so many friends and colleagues, the conference had such a great vibe and we even ended up buying a couple of new devices for our clinic. Cosmedic Pharmacy was also very busy and attracted many new customers so a special thank you to Kelly and Nikita. Sharon and I Chaired the session on Volumisation and there was some excellent speakers and presentations and some good debate. Looking forward to next year…
Will be great to catch up with friends and colleagues, see all the latest treatments and technologies, listen to some great speakers and especially looking forward to the Jazz evening.
IMCAS World Congress 2016, some great lectures, some excellent speakers, really good to catch up with friends and colleagues and some fantastic hospitality.
I believe this is the finest work produced by the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group. The management of nodules, lumps, granulomas or biofilms as a result of injectable treatments is problematic and there is very little information on how to deal with them and such varied opinions! Finally, the ACE Group have taken all the best evidence and advice and formulated into a simple spreadsheet for all practitioners. Feel free to email me (martyn@cosmedic-clinic.co.uk) if you wish to receive the PDF document.
Dr Martyn King’s lecture on Management of Aesthetic Complications was very well received and had extremely positive feedback. Looking forward to taking the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group further and publishing all the latest peer reviewed, evidence based guidelines and creating the ACE Group website as well as looking at running regional meetings specifically on management of complications. The group is not for profit and has the ethos that no-one should be doing a procedure if they are unable to deal with the immediate consequences if something goes wrong!
Martyn & Sharon are both excited about the new SkinCeuticals product launch, Metacell Renewal B3, ideal “prejuvenation” for the younger patient. Wine and nibbles and a catch up with fellow skin care experts. Metacell Renewal B3 contains 5% niacinamide and is a comprehensive daily moisturiser that improves the skin’s natural barrier, increases cell turnover, reduces discolouration and redness and hydrates without feeling tacky.
Dr Martyn King presented slides on the management of complications and then chaired a questions and answers panel debate. Extremely well received and some very good questions from the floor, it is obvious that there is a role for the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group and that peer-reviewed, evidence based guidelines are essential in what is essentially a very poorly regulated industry.
Panel included Sharon King, Stephen Bassett, Patrick Treacey, Helena Collier and Mandy Luckman.
A very busy year at ACE 2015 with Dr Martyn King on the speaker panel for the initial lecture on “The role of fat in aesthetics” with the session chaired by friend and colleague, Mr Taimur Shoaib and Mr Adrian Richards. A very good turn out and very educational. Followed by a lecture on the Sunday by Dr Martyn King on the subject of “The benefits of a multi-platform approach when dealing with different body indications”. As well as this, we were pleased to join Cosmedic Pharmacy at their booth and to catch up with all of our friends and colleagues. Looking forward to next year!
The management of infection is the latest guideline that has been produced for the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group by Dr Martyn King and Emma Davies (Vice Chair of the Aesthetic Complications and Clinical Director of Save Face). A peer reviewed consensus document informing practitioners on recommended antibiotic treatment regimes for aesthetics.
The next guidelines written for the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group by Dr Martyn King on Herpetic infections in aesthetic treatments. The document covers incidence, signs and symptoms, how to minimise the risk, treatment and prophylaxis in the at risk groups.

The Tyndall effect is named after the Irish Physicist, John Tyndall (1820-1893), who first described the feature. “The phenomenon in which light is scattered by particles of matter in its path. It enables a beam of light to become visible by illuminating dust particles, etc.” However in aesthetic medicine it is used to describe the bluish appearance that may be seen if a hyaluronic acid filler has been injected too superficially into the skin. This article produced for the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group by Dr Martyn King outlines what it is, how to avoid it and how to treat it.
Aesthetic New article, December 2013, Dr Martyn King
While many clinics run a successful business model based purely on facial rejuvenation, many more are expanding their services to tap into one of the most rapidly expanding areas of aesthetic medicine – body shaping. However, every person is different and has different needs, for some it is overall circumference reduction, for other it is small pockets of fat and for some it may just be cellulite. That is why it is important to have more than one technology to treat these – by combining cryolipolysis, cavitation, radiofrequency and vacuum rolling, you can be certain to get the very best results!
Aesthetic Complications Expert Group guidelines on the Management of Necrosis
Perhaps one of the most important documents produced by the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group due to the devastating outcomes associated with necrosis.
Necrosis can occur when a blood vessel is obstructed or occluded by the injection of dermal filler leading to tissue death and ulceration and subsequent scarring. Identifying this complication as it occurs and then immediate management can prevent any catastrophic outcomes. Fortunately it is a very rare complication, but having a good knowledge of anatomy and a good injection technique and working within your own competency levels are always advisable as well as ensuring that you have all the necessary skills and drugs to deal with a potential complication as it happens.
Dr Martyn King and Sharon King RN NIP conducted trial work with the Artiste assisted injection device for the administration of dermal fillers. By using the device they found that pain scores were improved and aesthetic outcomes and duration of treatment were the same as using a manual technique. They have used the device in their own practice and for training sessions. In this article, Dr Martyn King discusses his views on assisted injection devices and key advantages compared to other systems.
