Necrosis can occur when a blood vessel is obstructed or occluded by the injection of dermal filler leading to tissue death and ulceration and subsequent scarring. Identifying this complication as it occurs and then immediate management can prevent any catastrophic outcomes. Fortunately it is a very rare complication, but having a good knowledge of anatomy and a good injection technique and working within your own competency levels are always advisable as well as ensuring that you have all the necessary skills and drugs to deal with a potential complication as it happens.
