Microblading offers the perfect solution for people with thinning of the brows or don’t have the time to create their perfect brows! The procedure involves tattooing hair like strokes onto the brow area, filling in gaps and creating a fuller appearance. However, unlike normal tattoos, microblading does not go anywhere near as deep into the skin creating a semi-permanent effect which fades away over time. Everyone is different so the design, shape, fullness and colour of the brow is tailored to your individual needs and will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

What areas can be treated?

Microblading can give you the brows you’ve always dreamt of:

  • Creating fullness in already existing brows
  • Filling in sparse areas
  • Creating a better shape to suit your features
  • Correct unevenness and asymmetry
  • Recreating an entire brow
How does the treatment work?

Microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under the skin with a manual handheld tool. Hair like strokes are manually drawn on with the tool to mimic natural hairs. The initial treatment will take up to 2 hours to perform (most treatments will take about an hour), although the follow up treatment is usually shorter.

Our brows frame our faces and when shaped and enhanced correctly, the results are truly amazing. No wonder so many Celebrities show off their microblading results!

Is it safe and does it hurt?

During the first consultation, a full medical history will be taken and a patch test will be applied at least 48 hours prior to the treatment to ensure that there is no allergic reaction to the pigment.

A topical anaesthetic cream will be applied 30 minutes prior to the microblading treatment to avoid any discomfort and most people describe the procedure as a little uncomfortable but not painful and certainly a lot less pain than a tattoo.

Are there any side-effects?

Prior to treatment, tanning, face scrubs and chemical peels should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. Alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen) and certain vitamins should not be taken for a week prior to treatment as this increases the risk of bleeding and bruising.

Following the microblading treatment, redness can be experienced but this typically fades within a few hours. You may also experience scabbing within the first 10 days during the healing process. At home, after the procedure, it’s important to keep the brow area clean, dry and protected.

What can I expect after treatment?

The entire healing process can take up to 4-6 weeks depending on how your body reacts to the treatment. Your new brows will go through a few phases during the healing process. All of the following are totally normal and there is nothing to be concerned about:

  • The brows may scab and peel therefore it’s important to not scratch or pick and to keep the area dry, clean and protected. This will ensure that the brows heal evenly without any scarring.
  • The following day the pigment will appear considerably darker for up to 10 days or until the scabs or slight peeling have come off. This is normal and nothing to worry about. It is best not to arrange and important social functions for 2 weeks after your treatment.
  • The surrounding skin may appear very light or milky during the first 2 weeks, again this is normal and improves as the skin heals.
  • Once the peeling process is over the colour will be much lighter and hair strokes may appear less sharp, this is why you will need a touch up appointment 4 to 6 weeks later.

Results will typically last from between 1—3 years depending on skin type, age and lifestyle factors. The topical use of exfoliants (such as AHA or glycolic acid), retinol and tanning products will cause the pigment to fade faster with shorter lasting results.

You will be provided with an aftercare form to follow once your microblading treatment is completed and if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your treating therapist for a review and further advice.

Aftercare advice

Following the correct aftercare advice after your procedure is important to ensure you achieve the best results. Bear in mind that some unevenness of colour is to be expected after treatment. This is the purpose of the re-touch visit after 4 weeks.

For the first 24 hours, ice packs or chilled damp flannels may be applied to ease any discomfort and reduce swelling.

For the first 72 hours, you may experience:

  • Flaking
  • Tenderness
  • Dryness
  • Itching in the treated area
  • Swelling
  • Redness

For the first week, we recommend the following daily care routine:

  • Always wash you hands before touching the treated area.
  • Apply any aftercare cream or gel recommended by your practitioner/therapist.
  • Use a clean cotton bud/pad each time you apply the gel.
  • Use a gentle face cleanser.
  • Some itching is normal, but ensure you do not scratch, pick or peel as this may result in scarring, uneven colouration or infection. All the area to flake off naturally without any interference.
  • Do not apply make up to the treated area for a minimum of 7 days.

Do not expose the area to direct sunlight, tanning beds, jacuzzis/hot tubs, steam rooms, salt water, chlorinated pools, direct shower spray or hot water for the first 2 weeks. If the area gets wet, pat dry with a clean towel.

If you have any concerns, please contact your practitioner/therapist at the earliest opportunity.

Remember, your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after treatment but as it heals, the colour will soften and lighten up to 50%.
